Portraits of India
An ongoing collection of work exploring an application of Indian Miniature Painting technique to portrait realism.
Each piece is created from life sketches and street photography, layered with stories and memory to act as a personal visual diary. Out of respect for the subjects I have decided not to share specific details. If you are interested to know more then please get in touch.
Paintings are created using organic natural materials from Jaipur City Palace, Rajasthan. Handmade wasli paper is layered with pure khariya (white mineral stone) paint, burnished until smooth and then worked upon with the fine-line single hair Indian brush. Gratitude to my teacher Sri Ramu Ramdev in Jaipur, Rajasthan for sharing his wisdom and these intricate methods. If you are interested in the technique, please visit the Journal tab to read more.
