In October 2018 I'll be immersing into a new self-directed project in Cusco, Peru, thanks to the Arquetopia Foundation and their fantastic residency program.
The Arquetopia Foundation provides a residency space in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where selected artists are encouraged to develop programs that engage dialogue between arts, community, heritage and sustainability.
Working with their local partners, the people of Cusco, masters of traditional craft and the Foundations' mentors, I plan to use this time to develop a portrait project of human connection within and beyond culture. A look at how artistic techniques can open up the possibility of authentic connection in an otherwise structured world of etiquette and social limitations.
I love that the foundation especially encourages art practices that are sustainable, non-toxic and that re-use materials. At the same time they are extremely committed to deep connections within community, historical context and environment.
